In re Colorado Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission.

2021 CO 76. No. 21SA305. Legislative Redistricting—Voting Rights Act—Preservation of Political Subdivisions—Equal Protection—Dilution of Electoral Influence.

November 15, 2021

In this original proceeding filed pursuant to Colo. Const. art. V, § 48.3, the Supreme Court reviewed the final legislative redistricting plans for the Colorado Senate and the Colorado House of Representatives (Plans) adopted and submitted to the Court by the Colorado Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission (Commission).

The Court concluded that the Commission did not abuse its discretion in applying the criteria set forth in Colo. Const. art. V, § 48.1 in adopting the Plans. The Court thus approved the Plans and ordered the Commission to file them with the Colorado Secretary of State no later than December 29, 2021, as required by Colo. Const. art. V, § 48.3(5).
