People v. Johnson.
No. 24PDJ031 (consolidated with 24PDJ045). 11/19/2024. Stipulation to Discipline.
December 10, 2024
The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ stipulation and suspended Cornell Johnson (attorney registration number 34449) for three years, effective November 19, 2024.
On March 25, 2024, Johnson was found guilty in Denver County District Court of first degree assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, a class 3 felony, in violation of CRS § 18-3-202(1)(a). The criminal charge alleged that on or about June 25, 2022, Johnson unlawfully and feloniously caused serious bodily injury to a victim by means of a deadly weapon—a firearm—with the intent to cause serious bodily injury to another person. Johnson’s original sentence of 10 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections with a 36-month period of parole was modified to a five-year probation sentence.
Through this conduct, Johnson violated Colo. RPC 8.4(b) (it is professional misconduct for a lawyer to commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects).
