The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ stipulation to discipline and publicly censured Lisa Ann Ward (attorney registration number 31338), with conditions. The public censure took effect on June 29, 2026.

In 2024 and 2025, Ward concurrently represented two clients in their respective custody matters with their former spouses. The custody disputes arose from an incident of domestic violence between Ward’s clients, who lived together in a blended family with the children at issue in the disputes. In August 2024, the trial court in one client’s matter made a finding that the client was a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of Ward’s other client.

In late May 2025, the clients signed a conflict waiver for the dual representation, but Ward failed to provide either of her clients with sufficient information or advisement about her conflict to constitute informed consent. Ward continued representing the clients in their respective custody matters until October 2025, when she withdrew from one of the matters. The upcoming custody hearing in that case was delayed so the former client could get substitute counsel.

Through the conduct described above, Ward violated Colo. RPC 1.7(a) (a lawyer must not represent a client if the representation involves a concurrent conflict of interest).
