Why did you become a lawyer?
I became a lawyer because I wanted to help people. In my field, I get to help injured people navigate the consequences of another’s actions and get some justice for the injuries wrought upon them.

What do you wish you had learned in law school?
I wish I had learned more about the business side of law. Law school gave me a good foundation on the law, but I wish I had learned about accounting, law firm administration, and other fields related to actually running a law firm.

What do you think is the most essential professional skill?
Empathy. Most of us see people on some of their worst days. A lawyer can know every law, statute, and strategy available to them, but without empathy we do a disservice to our clients.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
No matter what you do, something will go differently in trial than you anticipate. Thoroughly prepare yourself and your case so you can be ready to roll with the surprises.

If you weren’t a lawyer, you’d be:
A classics professor.

How do you like to spend your free time?
I love to sing, which I get ample opportunities to do through my church choir, a community choir I’m in, and the Law Club of Denver.

What’s your guilty TV pleasure?
Any of the Real Housewives franchises. I’m currently rewatching Salt Lake and Orange County.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?
Golden Bahn Mi in Aurora.

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen in person?
Salem, Massachusetts, in October. I’m a huge fan of both Halloween and the fall, so I loved experiencing the beautiful New England foliage alongside the Halloween spirit that takes over the town every autumn.

Where do you go when you need fresh inspiration?
My family. I’m very close with my parents, brother, and sister-in-law, so whenever I need a fresh perspective, they’re the people I turn to. They’re great sounding boards and aren’t afraid to let me know if one of my ideas doesn’t align with my goals or might lead me in the wrong direction.

What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Starting my own firm. It’s something I had dreamt of since starting law school, and I’m unbelievably proud of myself for taking the leap despite how daunting it was.

People would be surprised if they knew this about you:
After earning my blackbelt in Taekwondo, I became an instructor and taught it throughout middle and high school.

What do you think is the most essential life skill?
Being able to cook. It gives you control over your food, it’s a wonderful creative outlet, and it’s an all-around great skill to have. Plus, there’s something magical about cooking a meal and sharing it with others.
